Cameroon: Central African Republic refugees, 2014-2016
In the first half of 2014 we had numerous fatalities among children arriving from the Central African Republic, exhausted from months of trekking through the jungle to flee conflict.
After an arduous flight, life had become quite tolerable in Gado refugee camp – although most refugees had no work and very little income.
These are Mbororo refugees, nomadic cattle herders prevalent in Western Africa. Agro-pastoral conflict was at one of the causes of violence in the Central African Republic – often dubbed, quite wrongly, as a “religious” conflict.
